Crochet Coral Reef Project – Yes.

I ran across this article today, but I’ll admit that I didn’t read it very carefully. I was so caught up in the gorgeous, colorful photos!

I can’t wait to show this to my Mom, but she goes to bed at 8 p.m. so I’m resorting to blogging about it so I don’t burst. Just stunning and amazing – the work! The detail!

Turns out that this is a project by the Institute for Figuring. It turns out that crochet is the perfect model of hyperbolic space.  And I’m so late to this game. There have been community exhibits in many places, including the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. I swiped the TED Talk given by one of the women who started the project.

As soon as I saw the talk, I looked up the first crochet coral reef exhibition at the Warhol in Pittsburgh. So cool!

I just bought a copy of the Field Guide to learn about this a bit more!
