Tea Bagger Madness . . .
On Monday, while I was waiting for my MINI to be serviced, I met a manager with Dress for Success. We were discussing current events and politics, and she surprised me by saying that many of her employees are staunch Tea Party supporters. Her “employees” are actually welfare recipients who are required to work a certain number of hours in order to receive cash assistance. Some of the women are confused and seem to believe that they have a job, when they are actually on welfare, government assistance. They are adamant that the government should make severe cuts, including cutting welfare programs altogether.
Are these women stupid? I don’t that they are less intelligent than the average American. Intellectually lazy might be a better description. Many people who identify as members of the Tea Party Movement receive some sort of government assistance, so how is it that they are so adamantly against their own self interest?
